Burmese Rubies - The King of All Gemstones

I was very fortunate to be able to acquire a fantastic lot of extremely high quality gemstone ruby. These fantastic red ruby gems reminded me of a something I heard from an old timer in the colored gemstones business, "when you see a true gem ruby, you'll know why it has no equal , it is the king of gems". Well he was right on! The rubies that are mined in the Mogok Valley of Burma (now called Myanmar) set the standard in ruby gems. When another ruby deposit is discovered in some other part of the world, it is always compared to the standard of the Burma rubies.

Availability of Very Fine Quality Burmese Rubies
This collection of fine Burma rubies is something that takes time and tremendous of effort to put together. This selection of a dozen extremely fine rubies was painstakingly collected from the top ruby wholesale dealers in Bangkok, the world center of the faceted gemstone trade. All of these rubies were selected on the basis of:
Color - All have a fiery red color, no pinkish hues
Clarity - Eye clean plus in the smaller sizes and eye clean in the larger sizes
Cut - Not be heavy or lumpy but be well cut for full brilliance in any lighting conditions
Size - Be at least one carat in weight

Why are Natural Burma Rubies the King of Gems?Faceted gemstones come in a mind boggling array of hues and tones. No other natural gemstone can posses the fiery red color of a loose ruby. Not only is a super fine ruby gem a fiery, vivid red, but it is also the hardest and most durable colored gemstones. The red color of a high quality, Burma Mogok Valley natural ruby is sometimes described as "pigeon blood". This term has been used so often to describe almost every ruby for sale on eBay that it has been rendered meaningless. A better term would be "Burmese ruby color". In any lighting conditions, a gem quality loose Burma ruby will display an almost pure exceptionally vivid red. Inclusions, or internal characteristics are accepted as common in Burma gem rubies. So if a rare size stone (over 3 carats) is discovered that is eye clean or better than eye clean, than this ruby is extremely rare and will command a huge price. A loose gemstone ruby such as this is so rare, even in the Mogok valley of Burma, that maybe only a dozen or so of these rare gemstones are mined each year!
