Unusual Faceted Gemstones
Yellow beryl gemstone is a cousin to aquamarine, emerald, morganite and green beryl. And what a cool cousin it is. Yellow beryl is sometimes called Heliodor (combined Greek words for “sun” and “gift”) and is not readily available in most retail jewelry stores. The best yellow beryl is a rich pure lemon yellow color, but it can range from a very pale yellow to a greenish-yellow to a very golden yellow. Unlike its cousin the emerald, yellow beryl seldom has inclusions.
Yellow beryl has been around for a long time. There was a time when heliodor was thought to promote sincerity and sympathy. It is also said to have been used a remedy for idleness. Some think that it makes one more compassionate and sympathetic towards others. The astrological sign of heliodor is Leo.
Gold Gemstone Jewelry
Yellow Beryl gemstone is rated 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale so it is very well suited for every day jewelry wear. It would be beautiful set with white or cognac diamonds. A large yellow beryl gemstone would look beautiful surrounded by small yellow sapphire gemstones and cognac diamonds all set in white gold. Wow what sparkle and what a conversation piece. Or think of it another way, you could use it as a “substitute” for a large yellow sapphire center stone but at a much more affordable price. No one would know but you.
