Precious Gemstone - The Sapphire

The word sapphire is derived from the Latin word "sapphirus", meaning blue. Sapphires have been around since antiquity. It is said that sapphires used to be ground into a powder and used in medical practices to counteract poisons, purify the blood, cure fevers, seizures and delusions or to strengthen the heart. Left whole, it was said to give peace of mind, tranquility, happiness and spiritual enlightenment. I'm not sure where all that started, but I'm glad we don't use them for these things now. That’s a lot to ask of gemstone.  But what a gemstone!

Birthstone Gems
Sapphire is the “modern” gemstone for those born in September, but it is also the anniversary gem for the 5th and 45th years of marriage.  It is the mystical birthstone for May and the zodiac birthstone for Taurus (mystical) or Libra (traditional).  So it is suitable for many occasions, not just for September or winter holiday gifts.

Aside from all its "powdered" uses throughout history, sapphire was and is a beautiful gemstone set in jewelry. It can be regal or playful, depending on the color and how it is set. Rainbow sapphire jewelry has been an “in” thing over the last few years. Why not create your own beautiful piece of rainbow jewelry? Or create a very traditional, regal custom sapphire ring. I am affiliated with several top notch jewelers who can create your special gold gemstone piece of jewelry. Click here to check out my top quality sapphires gemstones.
