Natural diamonds can be color enhanced by one of two well known methods.   In “Part One” of Beautiful, Rich Colors of Diamonds, we addressed one of the types of permanent diamond enhancement – radiation.  In this post we are addressing the second type of enhancement – HTHP.   HTHP stands for High Temperature High Pressure.  It is a type of treatment that first came about in late 1990s - early 2000.  It’s almost like returning the diamond back to the environment from which it started - in heat and under pressure millions of years ago.

HTHP treatment takes a natural diamond that is of poor color quality, removes the undesirable color (usually brown) and turns it into a beautiful vivid yellow, yellow-green, green, and very occasionally a pink brown or blue color.
