The main difference between Nigerian green beryls and emerald is the relative amounts of chromium in them. Emerald has much more chromium than do the green beryls. Green beryls appear “cooler” or more pastel as their color is less intense. They do not contain the inclusions or “jardin” that emeralds have so they are more likely to be eye clean and they appear to have more brilliance. Both are between 7.5 and 8 on the Mohs scale of hardness so they are very well suited to jewelry.
Colored Gemstones
Green beryl is also related to Morganite, aquamarine and yellow beryl. The green beryl that I carry come from Nigeria and range from a yellow green to mint green to a soft bluish green. I wish the photographs of these stones could show you the brilliance they have. Talk about sparkle. Green beryl gives you a lot of value for the money. They are much less expensive than emeralds so you can buy large gemstones for very reasonable prices. And they look absolutely fabulous set in white gold and accented with diamonds.
Loose Gemstones for Sale
I think some of the neatest stones I have are in the special collection (suite). It consists of a Morganite, an aquamarine, a yellow beryl and a green beryl. They are all in the same color intensity and have so much brilliance. You could make a jaw dropping piece of jewelry. How about a pin - pendant with diamond frames. Or you could have one of the jewelers I work with create something really special for you.
