New at AfricaGems – The Beautiful Gemstone Labradorite

We are expanding our selection of beautiful and sometimes unusual gemstones to include loose labradorite gemstones.  Labradorite is a gemstone you will not find available just anywhere.  We carry a nice selection of oval standard size (calibrated) labradorite from 7.00X5.00mm up to large 18.00X13.00mm  just waiting for the perfect setting.

Natural Gemstone
Labradorite is a natural gemstone that was first discovered in 1770.  It got its name because it was discovered on the Labrador Peninsula in Canada.  It is also found in Norway and Russia.

It is a member of the feldspar family and what a cool family to be part of.  Labradorite is easy to overlook if you are not looking at it from the right angle.  The basic darkish or grey background color of the gem makes it easy to not notice the colors hidden within, at least at first.  But once you discover the intense, rich color range within the gemstone, you will be hooked.  Labradorite can display blues, violets, greens, yellows and oranges across what is known as cleavage planes and will change with the angle of the light. There actually is a name for this phenomena, labradorescence and it must be seen in person to truly appreciate the beauty.

Gold or Silver Gemstone Jewelry
So, what can you do with labradorite?  Why set it in a beautiful ring, pendant, earrings or pin of course.  Because of the greyish background of this gemstone, it lends itself very well to being set in white metal.  Picture a Victorian or Art Deco filigree setting or something with beautiful engraving.  The beautiful lace or vine or floral patterns seen in filigree are the perfect complement to the bold striking colors.

If you are into metaphysical meaning, labradorite is supposed to enhance night vision, promote your belief in your own abilities, enhance intuitive wisdom, allow the wearer to see more clearly when used while meditating, stimulate physical activity and more.  Many believe it is a power stone.

Unfortunately, the pictures we have online just don’t do these beautiful gemstones justice.  The good news is that AfricaGems pays for shipping so you can see one of these beauties in person.  And we can help you design just the perfect setting for your beautiful new gemstone. Maybe the possible settings shown will help to inspire you.
