The Bright Colors of Fall and Winter Colored Gemstones

It just occurred to me that the winter holidays will be upon us sooner than we realize.  This year has zoomed by and Halloween has come and gone and that means that Thanksgiving (US), Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, and New Year’s Eve are not far behind.  For many people, fall and winter means deep, rich jewel tones.  But deep and rich doesn’t have to mean dark and boring.

Mix and Match Colored Gemstones
Of course, paring any gemstone with diamonds is very traditional and diamonds will brighten up any gemstone.  For example shown in the upper left, check out the beautiful Rubelite tourmaline surrounded by diamonds.  You can’t get much better than that, right?  But what if you added a punch of color by adding a Mandarin orange garnet surrounded by diamonds?  Doing that simple paring of gemstone takes a beautiful ring from very nice to WOW - see ring on the top right.

My dad, Andrew Sarosi, is an outstanding award winning jeweler and he taught me to appreciate mixing and matching colored gemstones.  All three ring designs shown in the blog post are his.

For example, he took peridot, garnet, amethyst and sapphire and created the beauty shown lower right.  It is vivid and rich in colors and anything but boring and dark.  It is a wow ring because of the combination of vibrant fall and winter colors.

Another example is the ring shown left.  It is patterned after the classic paisley shape and it is made with some of the most beautiful fall and winter gemstones; tanzanite for December, garnet for January, iolite for Virgo (September), amethyst for February and tourmalines for October - rich and vibrant fall and winter colors, not dark and boring.

Check out all Andrew Sarosi’s colorful rings available at AfricaGems.com.  I think he is a master of designs which match or contrast the colors of gemstones, but then I’m only slightly biased.  Any of his rings would make an outstanding gift for the holidays and will be something that can be passed down through the family and appreciated for generations.
