Something that bothers me is when I hear folks on the TV shopping shows say that someone should buy a loose gemstone or ring or pendant as an investment. True, gemstones and jewelry are not inexpensive purchases. But they should not be thought of like stocks, bonds, buildings, land or other “investments”. It would be highly unlikely that the average person could buy a top quality piece of jewelry or a loose gemstone cheaply enough that they could sell it for a profit the next day or the next year.
Rare Gemstones
There are rare pieces of jewelry like the 10.95 fancy vivid natural blue diamond paired with a spectacular 9.87 carat white diamond set in a ring that was purchased in 1971 for $1 million dollars and it is expected to sell in a month or so for around $15 Million. It is interesting to note that it that it was originally purchased to celebrate an event and not for investment. But most of us don't have either the $1million or $15 million to spend jewelry.
