True, precious golden topaz used to be the traditional birthstone for November, but due to its rarity in larger sizes, jewelers started suggesting citrine as the alternate birthstone many years ago so now it is accepted as a birthstone for November. Citrine and golden topaz are very similar in color, so it makes sense.
What color, what flair… If you live somewhere where winters are long and grey, citrine can brighten any day. It's color is sunny and warm. Citrine can be found in bright yellow all the way to a warm sherry color – think sparkling Maderia wine. If you live in a warmer winter climate citrine can remind you of wonderful flowers growing in the warm sun. It is one of the few yellow gemstones in the world. And they are a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness, so they are very wearable.
